Morning, lovely ladies!
If you are on the outer circle today & choosing to participate by posting on the class blog, please adhere to the following expectations:
1. Participate throughout the discussion's duration, posting a minimum of 3 times.
2. Link each question or assertion to a quote from the book that inspired it. Let's practice the skill of defending our thinking & grounding it in text. (If you need an example, see the sample question I posted on the fishbowl syllabi.)
3. Carefully proofread your work. Hey, it's English class.
Feel free to vacillate between this role & joining the inner circle.
Happy discussing!
I feel like Amir was extremely shocked because in the text Amir said that Farid had warned him, but he didn't listen to the warning. Farid had probably seen the facial expression that Amir made and was used to it
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with you that Amir was extremely shocked, but I disagree with you in the sense that he did listen to Farids warning but he had not weighted it too much. Amir may have just thought there would be some broken buildings, but not something to the point where all of the trees were gone and almost every building was rubble.
DeleteThe book probably would have been more about poverty, but finding happiness in friends and family.
ReplyDeleteBaba was not a person to accept other peoples help. He probably was thinking of the expenses that would be left for Amir.
ReplyDeleteDid anyone see this coming? Did anyone see the possibility that Hassan was Amir's half brother?
ReplyDeleteI don't think it would have been much different in the alley if Amir knew that Hassan was his brother because I think a lot of the actions that Amir took was out of fear, and brother or not, Amir would still have that fear that would drive his actions.
ReplyDeleteI think that Amir pushed away Hassan after what happened in the alley because Amir knew that he could have tried to stop it,he has the guilt of someone who could have stopped something terrible but didn't. I think we all know enough that the reason Amir didn't help was because he was terrified.
ReplyDeleteI think Amir might have intervened in the alley way because then he wouldn't have to live with so much guilt, however I still think that fear drove his actions that day, so I'm not sure there would be a significant change in Amir's thinking.
ReplyDeleteI think Amir did have regrets about what happened in the alley, I think that if he didn't want to please baba so badly that he would have yelled for Hassan to give the kite to Assef so that any other confrontation could have been avoided.
ReplyDeleteI definitely think that while watching the confrontation in the alley the conversation that he had overheard between baba and Rahim Khan, the conversation talked about how Amir didn't ever step into the fight, and in the alley it proved this point even more.
ReplyDeleteNow that we know the Hassan is Baba's son as well can we see some of the traits of Baba's that Amir doesn't have, such as that Hassan has been known to jump in the fight to protect someone else. Hassan had always been loyal and willing to help anyone, just as Baba had done.
